RHONY Season 16 Episode 5 RECAP: Billionaire Behavior and Unfinished Business
The ladies of New York are on an island getaway, but we have questions. Who actually owns this island? Why are billionaires sharing bedrooms? And most importantly, did anyone ever eat dinner?
In this episode of Overanalyzed with Dom and Kyla, we’re discussing the confusing editing, questionable billionaire behavior, and the heartbreaking news that Sai’s husband filed for divorce while she was preparing for a girls’ trip.
Overanalyze: Billionaire Behavior and Island Ownership
Erica invited the ladies to her private island, except the island isn’t entirely hers. Apparently, seven families own property on the island, and Erica’s family owns one portion.
Dom was firmly on Daisy’s side when she started asking questions. If you own property on an island, why keep telling everyone you own the island? And why does a massive billionaire vacation home have pullout couches and shared bedrooms?
Kyla had another question: Why didn’t the property feel like anyone’s home? Between the estate manager, private chefs, and impersonal accommodations, the entire experience felt more like a luxury hotel than a family getaway.
We also debated whether marrying a billionaire makes you a billionaire. Erica’s expensive lifestyle, Amazon fashion purchases, and love of tacos are becoming her personality. But is she relatable, or is she simply trying to appear relatable?
Dom thinks Erica might be more calculating than she initially appears. Kyla wants to see her develop relationships outside the group before deciding whether she’s a memorable Housewife.
Honorable Mention: Sai’s Heartbreaking Divorce Announcement
Sai learned that her husband had filed for divorce through messages from friends while she was preparing for the trip.
After hearing her discuss her marital struggles last week, watching her receive this news was heartbreaking.
Dom questioned the timing and whether filing while Sai was away gave her husband a sense of control. Kyla was especially frustrated that Sai had already expressed wanting a separation, only to have her husband make the first official move.
We also discussed the emotional burden women carry when trying to maintain their marriages and families, even when those relationships are no longer working.
Also Worth Discussing: Jessel’s Lack of Self-Awareness
Dom questioned whether the mistake was intentional, particularly given Jessel’s previous comments about Carole’s connection to the Kennedy family.
And when Daisy used a hypothetical Shein dress to explain why criticizing someone’s home is offensive, Jessel became more upset about the clothing comparison than the actual point.
Jessel continues to frustrate Dom, especially after calling Carole by the name of her late friend, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
Sometimes the reaction tells you everything you need to know.
Are you enjoying the new RHONY cast? Do you think Erica is hiding a more calculating personality? And was Daisy wrong to question the island ownership?
